Introduction to Propalms TSE software for Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008
Propalms TSE V6 software turns Windows Terminal Services into a real application. Developed in tune with Windows 2008, V6 of the Propalms software delivers many of the features that Microsoft have left out.
Propalms TSE thin client software in association with Microsoft
Terminal Services allows companies to reduce the overheads associated
with supporting Desktop PC's and Laptops by controlling the delivery
and use of software that is used by PC and Laptop users.
Propalms TSE
thin client software is an indispensable alternative to Citrix®
providing powerful and secure thin client solutions for Windows
Server 2008 and 2003.
Propalms TSE leverages the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol
(RDP) as a standard building block, adding an intelligent management
layer and protecting customers' long-term investments in the Microsoft
platform.
Propalms TSE is simple to install and easy to administer
and use, and implements Windows server applications and the Windows
desktop through a single, unified and portable browser interface.
TSE 6.0 provides the following features:
Windows 2008 Support
- TSE 6.0 will provide out of the box support for Windows Server 2008 Server
- Extended support for all New Terminal Services Enhancements Backwards Compatibility
- Compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 along with Windows Server 2008! to allow customers to run ‘mixed’ TSE teams and ease their transition over to Windows 2008 while still using a common management interface across all servers TSE ‘Best Fit’ Connection Experience
- Many Windows 2008 Terminal Services features will require the latest Desktop OS for support. For instance, TS Easy Print requires RDP
client 6.1 and .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 by default only available on Vista. Therefore if a customer does not update all of their client
devices they will not get the latest features from Windows 2008!
- Propalms TSE 6.0 will allow users to take advantage of this functionality if the client is compatible, but more importantly will provide a
mechanism where if the client is not of sufficient levels still offer them an alternative for the features they require, i.e. Windows 9x/2000/XP
clients connecting will be able to use HyperPrint / UniDriver capabilities.
NEW User Interface
- A new TSE dashboard using advanced controls to show graphical displays of critical metrics within the Propalms Team.
- New easy navigation menus, search facility, hyperlink menus and tooltips simplify the administrative experience.
- Simple, Intuitive layout
Virtual Desktop Connection Manager
- Allows provisioning of ‘Virtual Desktops’ via Propalms TSE
- Will work with Microsoft Virtual Server, Hyper-V, VMware
- Perfect for customers looking for easy introduction to VDI
- Ideal for ‘Power User’ requirements
HyperPrint
- In-built PDF printing solution
Virtual IP
- Many applications have a requirement for a unique IP address per user instance in order for them to work
- In Terminal Services all users by default get assigned with the server’s IP address to which they connect
- Virtual IP allows the assignment of a unique IP address to each Propalms TSE session from a pool of addresses which solves this problem
TSE Session Recorder
- Records Propalms TSE sessions for Compliance, Security and Support capabilities
- TSE Sessions can easily be re-played from within the Propalms TSE Management Console
Content Publishing and Redirection
- Publish individual files of all types directly to the LaunchPad
- Redirect Media and HTTP requests to local devices rather than running on the Terminal Server
User Principal Name Support For Console and LaunchPad
- Ability for a user to login to Console or LaunchPad using format username@domain.com
RDP Optimisation

Propalms Inc. is a leading global provider of application delivery solutions for Terminal Services and Virtual Desktop Infrastructures, delivering to Enterprises of all sizes reliable, scalable and affordable solutions that simply work out of the box to deliver solutions that are flexible, dynamic and above all, simple to use.
Propalms TSE is a complete management solution which uses
the base technologies of Microsoft Windows to provide a complete
solution that manages the delivery of software to end users, application
servers and server-hosted Windows applications.
A Propalms TSE server team is a combination of all the servers
that have Windows Terminal Services Edition software installed:
One or more Windows Terminal Servers
One or more Microsoft IIS web servers
One or more TSE load balancers
One or more Relay Servers

Application Publishing
Using Propalms TSE, Windows based applications are made available
to Thin Clients and Fat Clients (PC's). The Propalms TSE software
maintains a list of applications for every user, and the applications
can be published directly to a user's account or to organisational
units (OUs) or groups of users.
Application Launch Pad
The application launch pad is primarily where applications are launched
and from where the Propalms TSE client is distributed. The first
time a thin client user logs on, TSE creates a User Menu in the
Windows Start menu to provide an alternate way for the user to launch
applications.
Client Components
TSE uses small but important client-side components to enhance the
user's terminal services experience with features such as printing
to local printers, accessing client drives and hiding the native
Terminal Server desktop.
Load Balancing
When an application is launched, the Propalms TSE client contacts
the TSE load balancer to identify the best application server for
this request - the load balancer can identify the best server (or
if a server has failed) by continuously rating the application server
load metrics.
Application Hosting
TSE launches the application host on the application server instead
of launching the application directly This lies behind many of the
special enhancements to the RDP connection that TSE provides.
Session Management
Once the users are connected to a server, TSE tracks and monitors
the active sessions using the application host. Administrators can
perform session management functions like resetting a session or
shadowing a session from a central console.
Reporting
Throughout all processes TSE collects data and composes reports
that administrators can view to evaluate application and system
usage. Administrators can also download this information to create
their own reports.
Thin Clients
Thin Clients are superior access devices that do not have hard drives or any moving parts, and all data is stored on virtualised servers in the data centre, leading to significant improvements:
- Security – Your data is secure because it resides in the data centre, where it is not only safeguarded against theft, but is backed up regularly. Maverick applications are eliminated, and you can lock down USB ports to prevent data theft.
- Reliability – Solid state technology requires far less help desk intervention, and if a thin client experiences a failure, simply replace it, reconnect to the server, and resume work with minimal impact on productivity. Thin clients also last longer – up to eight years – than traditional desktop PCs.
- Manageability – HP Thin Clients are nearly “instant on”, with quick boot times that get your employees up and running sooner.
- Energy savings – Thin clients use an average of 80 percent less energy (25 watts on average as opposed to 170 watts).
- Space savings – Thin clients are very small compared to traditional desktops, and they can be clipped to flat panel monitors, or beneath desks or behind walls in tight spaces.
There is a thin client solution for every need
Whether you need a basic terminal for Server Based Computing, a touch screen terminal for kiosks, or a specialised mobile thin client, there is a model for you that is affordable and provides a simple, secure and reliable user access to any Remote Client Solution.
