EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
Overview
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) can revolutionise the
way that you carry out your business. RELAY will enable you to
receive the full benefit of EDI quickly. Implementation of this
module offers you flexibility because file structures are not
enforced and you are able to choose a Value Added Network service
best suited for your environment.
The EDI module is totally parameter driven. A file, containing
details of your business contacts and the services that are used,
is maintained through RELAY.
Multiple files identifying the types of documents to be exchanged
and their formats can be set up with easy to use tools. Naturally,
all communications are logged to provide a comprehensive audit
trail and make message tracking simple.
RELAY messages can be delivered in standard EDIFACT message format
as defined by the UN and accepted by IBM, AT&T Istel, GEIS
and many other major network providers.
To compliment the RELAY EDI module is the support of a highly
qualified team of consultants to ensure a successful implementation
of any EDI initiative.
EDI - Functionality
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the simple concept
of exchanging information electronically with your trading partners,
in a fast and accurate method without concern for physical system
differences or time zones.
RELAY EDI provides the means to exchange business documents efficiently,
securely and with total control. It provides centralised management
control, maintenance and reporting tools plus archiving for totally
efficient EDI usage.
Modules:
EDI Translator
For output messages, this module translates raw data into
EDI submessages based on the intended Trading Partner and the
relevant Document Definition File.
The translator supports multiple versions of the same message.
For incoming messages, this module translates an incoming Interchange
into a data format which can be understood by the customers application.

EDI Interchange Builder
This module selects waiting EDI submessages from the queue
for the same Value Added Network (VAN), Trading Partner and message
type and builds them into Interchanges. These interchanges are
flagged for transmission by the Relay EDI Driver.
EDI Driver
This module controls one or more communications links
with Trading Partners. Multiple VAN's are used, including AT&T,
GEIS/INS, BT, TRADANET and IBM.
File Maintenance
To enable Document Definition, Partner and Message Control
Files to be maintained.
Data Files:
EDI Document Definition File(s)
Holds the structure of the raw input data and the output
EDI message (i.e. Maps in and out of the translator). There is
one file for each version of a message and for each direction
that it is sent.
EDI Partners File
Records valid partner information including the Interchange
Agreement Number, the service used and other standards.
EDI Message Control File
Records the messages which are supported by the system
for each, Trading Partner referring to a related Document Definition
File which holds the key to the format of the message.
